Satellite Beach is about ten minutes south of Cocoa Beach and nearby attractions on A1A. It is eight miles northeast of Melbourne FL International Airport. (See more on this very handy nearby Airport on our Cocoa Beaches + Satellite Beaches Tips page.)
Cocoa Beach is known as the closest beach to the Orlando Attractions -- about 50 miles east of the Orlando Airport on the "Bee Line" Expressway (Hwy #528) -- the bee line to the beach.
There is a lot to do and see in the Cocoa Beach Florida area - with nearby attractions such as NASA Cape Kennedy Space Center, Merrit Island National Wildlife Refuge, Brevard County Zoo, Cocoa Beach Pier, as well as Day trips to Orlando Attractions and St. Augustine FL. Cape Canaveral is just north of Cocoa Beach and is where the Cape Canaveral Port Area is located. Many times this area is refered to as the "Cocoa Beach Port" area. The East end of the "Bee Line" Expressway (Hwy 528) from Orlando is at the corner in Cape Canaveral where it turns south into the coastal A1A Hwy that runs next to or near the Atlantic ocean along the entire East Coast of Florida.

The beach vegetation on the beach "sea wall" or sand dunes in front of some Oceanfront East Coast Florida Hotel Rooms is a bit tall. Therefore, you want a Hotel room on the 2nd floor or higher if possible for an unobstructed Ocean view.In St Augustine the third floor and above is preferred since the beaches and sand dunes are so wide there -- often the hotels and resorts are setting back from the ocean several blocks with a wooden walkway over the sand dunes to the beach.
