Tip - Start early, because this is a long Day Trip Drive -- Plus check before you go to see if the Hwy 242 McKenzie Pass (Elev 5,324) - is not closed for snow or for the Winter.

Pick a clear day for this Scenic Drive to Sisters Oregon, so you can see the great views of several mountain ranges from the View Point at the top of the Trail. Have a fun soup and sandwiches lunch in the Town of Sisters Oregon at the Depot Delli with a working model train running around the walls!
Return via Hwy 20 & 228 to check out two Oregon Covered Bridges. This is a fairly long "Day Trip" drive, but you will see some beautiful scenery on McKenzie Pass and in the rocky Oregon Volcanic Belknap Crater area with trees starting to regrow + on the return drive on the McKenzie Hwy portion beside the river. Start early so you will have enough time to take pictures of the two Oregon Covered Bridges and get back to the Florence area to watch the Sunset over the Pacific Ocean.

Day trip over to town of Sisters east of Eugene, Oregon. Saw many
elk along road near Eugene. Was a little foggy in early AM.
Went to Sisters from Eugene, OR on scenic route by way of
Hwy 242 - McKenzie Pass (Elev 5,324)
-- Former site of Oregon Volcano eruption. They closed the pass for winter because of snow the day after we were there.
Tip - It is important to check if the Scenic McKenzie Pass road is open before you start out on this Day Trip to Sisters so you won't make 2/3 of your drive and then find out the McKenzie Pass is closed for snow!

To McKenzie Pass Recreation Govt web site  For my Wife, the REAL reason for going to town of Sisters, Oregon - 3 1/2 hours drive each way from Florence -- a Sisters Quilt Shop my Wife had read about!  Fun place where we had lunch in Sisters, OR - the Depot Deli. They had a working model train that ran around track near the ceiling - also had great soup and sandwiches!  Lot of rain and foggy weather there - result is a lot of moss growing on trees in higher elevations  Oregon Autumn fog on mountains across river - taken from McKenzie Hwy  Are many Covered Bridges in Oregon - Much "Newer" and more standardized than older Covered bridges in Eastern US and in Iowa that are more "Unique" and we thought have more Character. -- On Return trip via Hwy 20 & 228 to check out two Oregon Covered Bridges Scenic Oregon Day Trips with Pictures, Routes, Maps, and Tips
